Teacher’s Day 2026

In India, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on September 5 to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India, who was a scholar and philosopher.

The boys at MBBS too had a celebration for Teacher’s Day, but selected September 6 as the day, as it was a Sunday. Like all celebrations, there was a muted secret preparation for the day – the boys preparing dances, songs and cards for all the confreres, Tutors and Staff. There was also this muted excitement as they went about their preparations.

The Tutors and Staff started coming in by 12pm. They were treated to a plate of snacks. In the meantime, the boys were all excited for the programme to start.

As the Tutors and Staff entered the Hall, they were welcomed by two of the boys who presented each of them with a flower. Then the two emcees, Amithroy and Om introduced the first item, a group dance which was well done, with the boys in sync.

The Rector, Fr. Francis gave a short address, mainly addressing the boys.

Next up was a group song to honour teachers which had a guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and drums as accompaniment. Once again, well done. The final item was a duo dance by two of the boys.

After this, Cl. Godwin had a small game for the Tutors and Staff – a Blindfold Catwalk. One person gets blindfolded and has to catwalk across a series of small paper cups laid out in a row across the floor. The game was good fun and was amusing and funny to see.

The cake was then brought out. The boys sang Happy Teacher’s Day to You to the tune of Happy Birthday. The cake was cut with a knife that had two long ribbons on either side which the Tutors and Staff held as Fr. Francis cut the cake. The Tutors and Staff were then given a token of appreciation and a card each.

As the programme wound down, the boys came up and gave cards to their favourite Tutor or Staff member.

The Tutors and Staff were then taken out for a sumptuous lunch. It was a lovely time of fun and comradeship. Overall, a very pleasant day.
