Summer Camp for Children of Street Vendors

Bosco Sahara, Dharwad organised a four-day Summer Camp for children of street vendors at Siddheshwar Nagar.

About 40 children from 3rd to 7th standard participated on the first day. They took part in activities like action songs, craft work and fun games.

On the second day of the summer camp a dental health check-up camp was conducted. A team of dental professionals from SDM Hospital and College visited the camp for this purpose. Doctor Shifali, along with postgraduate students and interns, actively participated in the dental screening of 90 children.

In addition to the check-up, the medical team conducted an awareness session on the importance of dental hygiene and preventive dental care. The children were educated on proper brushing techniques, the importance of regular dental check-ups, and maintaining good oral hygiene habits.

The session was well-received, and the children enthusiastically took part in both the screening and the awareness activities. The program aimed to create awareness among children about oral health, which is often neglected in marginalized communities.

On the third day of the camp, a variety of engaging and creative activities were conducted for the children. A total of 40 children actively participated in the day’s program.

The activities for the day included: a drawing session where children expressed their creativity with themes like nature, festivals and their daily life; a craft session where they created simple items using materials easily available in a house; story-telling that included engaging, moral-based stories to inspire values like honesty, kindness and teamwork; and action songs.

The fourth and final day of the camp had engaging and meaningful activities designed to entertain and educate the participants.

Activities included: creative craft, a singing competition, a dance competition and a session on “Good Touch and Bad Touch”.

The singing had the atmosphere ringing with joyful melodies, while the enthusiastic dancing displayed various styles.

The session on “Good Touch and Bad Touch” was an important awareness session to educate children about personal safety, helping them understand the concept of good and bad touch in a sensitive and age-appropriate manner.

Prizes were awarded to the winners of each competition to recognize and encourage their participation. Every child received a prize as a token of appreciation for being part of the camp and participating actively. Sweets were distributed to all the children, adding to the day’s joy and celebration.

The children expressed great happiness and excitement throughout the day. The camp concluded successfully, leaving the children with happy memories, new learnings, and a sense of encouragement.
